What vendors ask for

The least power any of a vendor's units needs, across all 43 verified cold storage vendors we list.

  • Standard 110 to 120V outlet14
  • 110 to 120V outlet on a 20 amp circuit5
  • 208 to 240V single-phase, or a larger 120V circuit2
  • Three-phase power5
  • Publish power text without a clear voltage4
  • Publish no power requirements13

19 trailer vendors say a unit runs on 110 to 120V at 20 amps or less.

How to read the result

We read each vendor's published power requirements and record the least power any unit it rents needs. The checker assumes a site with a higher level also has the lower ones (a venue with three-phase service also has ordinary outlets, for example). If yours doesn't, pick the lower option. When a vendor gives amps without volts, or only says something like “electric standby”, we don't guess; it goes under “ask”.

This is a reading of what vendors publish, not electrical advice. Before the unit arrives, confirm the outlet type, the breaker size, whether anything else shares the circuit, and how far the unit can sit from the outlet. If you are unsure what a circuit can carry, ask an electrician.

Not sure what size you need? Use the refrigerated trailer size calculator. Vendors appear only after we verify them: how we verify listings.

Frequently asked questions

Can a refrigerated trailer plug into a normal outlet?

Many can. Of the 30 cold storage vendors in our listings that publish power needs, 14 say at least one of their units runs on a standard 110 to 120V outlet and 5 more ask for a 20 amp circuit at the same voltage. 4 ask for a dedicated circuit with nothing else on it. Refrigerated containers are different: 3 of the 4 container-only vendors that publish power needs ask for three-phase power.

What if there is no power at my site?

Some vendors say they supply a generator or rent diesel-powered units; pick "No power at the site" in the checker to see which ones in your metro. Others say their units can run on a generator without saying who provides it, so ask before you book.
